Dysart et al Mayor’s Message for Summer 2020

Dysart et al Mayor’s Message for Summer 2020

Municipality of Dysart et al | The Heart of the Haliburton Highlands

The summer of 2020 is officially here and we have been enjoying some lovely weather. We have been living with the Covid-19 pandemic for over 3 months. Everyone has had to make changes to the way we live and work.

I want to thank all our health care workers as well as those who support the vulnerable people in our community. You have risen to the challenge and we are truly grateful.

As we head into this summer, we know many will be enjoying their cottage properties more than ever. We will also see many renters coming here as the short-term rentals were permitted by the Province. The message I sent out early May asked that people bring the supplies that they needed. Now that we are in phase 2, that message has changed. Our local businesses are ready for the summer season and we want people to come to Haliburton, West Guilford, Eagle Lake, Fort Irwin, and Harcourt for food, clothing, gifts, hardware and other items. Order take out from a restaurant, or better yet, make a reservation to sit on their patio.

Our Recovery task force will be kicking off a campaign called “Welcome to My Ward”, which will feature each of the five wards in Dysart. Each Councillor will introduce things to do and places to visit in their area, such as beaches, boat launches, some businesses and places of interest. This summer, why not explore all the wonderful things we have to offer right here in Dysart!

The most important thing to remember is that we are not out of the woods. Covid-19 is still a very dangerous virus. I ask that you wear a mask when shopping or in an area where you can’t be 6’ apart. Be sure to wash your hands before and after you enter a store. Make an appointment to get tested if you feel you have any symptoms.

We are blessed to live and cottage in such a beautiful, safe place. Enjoy your summer, visit with your friends, family and neighbours, and support the local businesses and community organizations. I wish everyone a safe and healthy summer of 2020!!
