Bell Mobility Cell Pole Approved by Dysart – UPDATED June 29, 2018

June 2018 Update

As reported earlier, Bell Mobility has received approval to install and commission a supplementary cell transmitter on a wooden pole structure near the intersection of Watt’s Road and Kennisis Lake Road. We had hoped that this could be in place for the summer season but the project has hit a couple of minor snags that are expected to delay the in-service date until mid-September. Study of the soil conditions where the pole is to be installed has revealed that the design for the foundation for the pole needs to be adjusted. In addition, lead time for delivery of the pole itself has turned out to be longer than expected. We understand that Rogers and Fido customers will also benefit from improved coverage through an agreement with Bell that provides for free roaming service onto Rogers-EXT or Fido-EXT in areas where Rogers coverage is inadequate as described in the following page https://www.rogers.com/customer/support/article/extended-coverage-faqs

Background

At their March 26th Council Meeting Dysart passed a motion approving the lease of the land required for Bell Mobility’s proposed cell pole near the intersection of Watt’s Road and Little Kennisis Lake Road.  The material reviewed by Council, including a summary of the public consultation process conducted by Bell, can be seen P-12 Proposed Telecommunication Tower – Bell

The authority responsible for final approval of Bell’s application is Industry Canada.  The new cell pole is projected to significantly improve coverage in some areas around the lake but will not be able to eliminate all dead spots.  Bell Mobility plans to install the new wooden pole structure this summer.  When construction plans are finalized we will post an update including the expected timing for commissioning the new facility.
