LAND TRUST:
Many thanks to F.O.C.A. for their assistance in providing information concerning
land trusts as we monitor development on the lake.
MARINE ENGINE EMISSIONS:
Jim Hunt, one of our residents, brought this issue to our attention last fall
and FOCA has been making representations to Federal Environment Minister David
Anderson. Conventional two-stroke marine engines are a major source of water,
air and noise pollution. It is reported that in seven hours of use, a
conventional two-stroke engine produces the same amount of hydrocarbons and
nitrogen oxides as a 1998 passenger car driven 100,000 miles.
SEPTIC TESTING:
If you're at all concerned about the effectiveness of your septic system, there
is a kit available now which includes inspection steps, colourful diagrams,
shoreline friendly tips, dye testing capsule and a long septic life practice
guide. The kit costs $8.95 +gst +pst +shipping and can be obtained by calling or
writing: SEPTIC TEST, UNIT-11-348 Worthington Street East, North Bay, ON. P1B
1H3 705-476-3998. F.O.C.A. is currently designing a document which local
associations can use to help local municipalities develop a re-inspection
programme.
OTHER ISSUES OF NOTE:
Two copies the current F.O.C.A. report are available for viewing. Topics include;
permits to take water, air quality, hunting in wilderness parks, household
hazardous waste, Dombind, roads, taxation, municipal election, official
planning, boating-aids to navigation, cottage watch, insurance. The year of the
septic system, shell environment fund, lake stewardship planning, shoreline
ambassador program, Zebra Mussel monitoring, Great Ontario Dip-in. These reports
will be available at our meeting and after that will be placed at our display at
the marina store.
