2011 Kennisis Lake Tree & Shrub Planting Program
Once again in 2011, the KLCOA will offer a tree & shrub planting program for all of our members……
The purpose of this program will be to rehabilitate open or harvested areas, to control erosion, create a windbreak or buffer, naturalize shorelines, or create wildlife habitat.
The trees offered will be both;
Coniferous :
White Pine (30-45cm tall), White Spruce (30-45cm tall)
and
Deciduous : Red Oak (60-90cm tall),
American Beech (30-45cm tall)
Also,
Shoreline Shrubs
: Red Osier Dogwood (60-90cm) and
Upland Shrubs
: Staghorn Sumac (30-45cm tall)
will be offered.
Recipients of this program should make reasonable effort to control weeds or other competing species around young plants and provide adequate watering in the event of summer drought conditions, to help the plants establish.
Only plants native to Ontario and in the appropriate seed zone are supplied through this program.
The 2nd year of this program will again be a learning experience for all. This year our trees and shrubs will be bigger and better established for greater initial effect and survival. The program will be offered on a yearly basis, with orders placed throughout the fall and winter season…
The orders are then placed to Lake Steward - Graham Beach by February 1st 2011. If our tree and shrub orders are confirmed, they will be ready for pick-up the 1st Friday in May 2011.
Coniferous Trees : Orders must be placed in increments of 10 units.
